Your questions. Our honest answers.

Yes, your boot fit can be adjusted on the Black Eagle Safety 55 Mid Side Zip by tightening or loosening the laces on either side of the zipper mechanisim. For a slightly more individualized fit, boots can be adjusted with an alternate insole. A blue insole for a narrower fit (thickest), a yellow insole for a wider fit (thinnest). Extra insoles can be purchased on the accessories page.
Yes the side zipper of the Black Eagle Safety 55 Mid Side Zip allows the individual user to adjust the fit to their own personal needs, offering more ankle support as needed, or possibly offering a looser fit across the forefoot for wider feet. Boots should be adjusted to your preference when they are received, then just zip in or out from then on. A second adjustment to the lacing may be needed after the boots have gone through their initial break in period.
Yes you can buy replacement parts for the Black Eagle Safety 55 Mid Side Zip such as insoles and laces. You can find these items on our website on the accessories page. If you are looking to retread or refurbish your Black Eagle Safety 55 Mid Side Zip boots, check out the HAIX Extended Wear program.
With the CROSSTECH inner liner, the Black Eagle Safety 55 Mid Side Zip does offer protection from liquids, chemicals, and bloodborne pathogens. The boots are tested and certified according to NFPA 1999 standards for biopenetration.
The Black Eagle Safety 55 Mid Side Zip runs similar in size to your athletic shoe size, but because of the built in arch support, they do run on the narrow side. The Black Eagle Safety 55 Mid Side Zip comes in medium, wide, and extra wide widths. It is recommended that you order one width larger than your usual width. For example, most people who normally wear a medium, would wear a wide in this boot.

No break-in period needed. Impressive details

I bought these as my first pair of Haix last week. I hesitated to order boots online without trying them on, but recommendations from friends got me over it. It turns out the sizing instructions were spot-on. I wore the boots 10 hours a day for four days straight, in the office and in the field with no discomfort. I put them on, adjusted them, then forgot about them. Until a fire extinguisher dropped on my toes and I felt nothing. :) They can be adjusted perfectly, and the zipper is extremely convenient. Consider me a satisfied customer.

Best, Longest-lasting Boots in Forty-Years of Boot Wearing

I've been wearing steel-toe/composite-toe boots for forty years. I bought my first pair of Haix fourteen years ago. They lasted so well for seven years that I looked to buy another. Unfortunately, Haix discontinued that model, so I bought a pair of the Black Eagle Safety 55 Mid Side Zip boots. That was seven years ago. They are now in a state that they require replacement. Other than replacing the insoles and laces when they've worn out, both pairs have been the most comfortable and longest lasting boots that I've ever owned. My only complaint with the Black Eagle model is that the Velcro on the zipper strap does not last as long as the rest of the boot materials and as such the zipper does not stay up. But give 'em a try. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

No More Zippers

Loved the shoes already. I’d rather not have a zipper. They break. I get the enhancement, but it’s not worth it.

2nd pair

They are extremely comfortable.Knee pain went away soon after wearing the first pair . They wear like walking shoes. You can put these on to make your feet feel better.Only drawback is the side zipper works down and I have to re tighten the laces several times during a work day. They are a major improvement over the Thorogoods that I've been wearing for the last few years.

Love them

I love all Haix boots, I've been using haix for over 10 years, I've tried station boots and athletic style, I love them. Almost 4 years ago I bought my first safety pair, I new it was a good investment but they exceeded my expectations. I use them in the plants for 4-5 days a week, 12-16 hours a day and are still in great conditions, at the end of the day my legs and back can hurt but not my feet. Safety boots are never going to be as light or cool as athletic shoes but Haix Safety boots compared against other brands are definitely lighter and cooler. The technology is really important too, is not just a steel toe boot, the foundation and the Crosstech technology make it a real safety boot. I would definitely pay the price again, almost 4 years and counting.

Took a bit to get used too

First pair of Haix I’ve owned, after all the reviews I read I had high hopes. Initially when receiving the boots I found them difficult to slip into, I found them uncomfortable and either too loose or to tight no matter how I tied them. Now after probably 84hrs of break in on shift, I find them like wearing a slipper. They’re light weight, breathable when paired with Marino wool socks. I can slip in and out of them. My only gripe would be the zipper seems to get stuck when zipping over the ankle. It takes a bit of force which is frustrating if you’re sitting in the truck on a way to a call and can’t easily just reach down and zip up. 8/10

Very happy

Really hard to pull the trigger on spending that amount of money, but glad I did so far. Easy on and off all day at work. Still breaking in, but very light and move like a hiker and not like a clunky heavy boot

Second pair

This is my second pair of these great boots. First pair after four years of twice daily horse feeding began to fail at sole/upper join. No leaks however! For my foot, the side zip is OK only with the use of elastic laces. With them, easy on/off and a snug fit. Composite toe good for horse missteps.

Comfortable

This is my second pair of boot I have ordered from Haix. The first ones were the Airpower and they lasted me almost 5 years, the only reason I did not get thos again is because I did not care for the front zip. So far these boots have not disappointed me, they are light, waterproof and most of all comfortable. These are comfortable enough where I do not rush to get out of them as soon as I can and carry wear them for 18 hours during my shift and not hate them. I would recommend these to anyone.

Excellent Boot, Excellent Service

Like many, I have spent thousands on boots over the years and barely was able to get a single season out of them. The HAIX boot is in its own league. Great fit, and working with HAIX was simple and straightforward. They’ve already been put to the test and surpassed even my high expectations. They are pricey but they are incredibly well made and will outlast anything Ive tried before. My next pair will be a winter boot, and it’s coming from HAIX for sure.

Beautifull & awesome boots

So these are very good looking boots. They are not the typical big bulky work boots. They are very sleek design you can wear them and not look like you just came off a construction site. Besides that they are extremely comfortable out of the box and the zipper part makes it easy to take them off or on. Very good protection all the way around but yet still looks like a designer footwear. The only issue is that they are narrow. I have wide feet and had to order the extra wide ones to fit perfect. Also like all HAIX boots they run large so order a half to one size smaller than usually. Highly recommended just get one size smaller and one size wider and you will love these boots. Extremely high quality inside and out. 6 stars out of 5 !!!

Really Good Boots and comfortable!

I only buy Haix boots, after wearing out a pair of the R series boots, decided to try a side zip to see if I liked them. All and all they are greatly comfortable! I have plantar fasciitis and these boots work great, but so did my R1s. Easy to get off but no so easy to get on. Don't have a problem kicking them off to get in turnout gear but putting them on I have to use both the straps to get them on. Fit is right and true to size. My opinion if you are a firefighter and have to keep getting in and out of your station boots, go with the R or XR front zip boots. If you are running a lot of EMS calls and don't come out of them a lot, these boots are a little better and easier to clean under the laces than the front zip boots.

Just great

I'm impressed with the quality of the boots. The height is shorter than I'm used to, but I am getting used to them. The size 16 fit me perfectly. Excellent communication, excellent options and lots of paperwork included that explains all the features. I won't look anywhere else for boots now.

Too tight, never broken in

These boots look great, but I had to order one size smaller than my normal size. I wore them around the station for a couple of days to ensure they’d fit well, which I thought they would after breaking in. After two months they’re still to tight in the toe box (even with the extra side) and the soles get more uncomfortable each day. Wish I hadn’t gotten rid of the box! My feet have been hurting so badly after shift that I’ve literally stopped wearing them. Ended up being a waste of a lot of money and a hard learned lesson.

Amazing Boot

These are the boots provided to us at our EMS company. I love them. My only complaint is there is a slight squeak. They do run about half a size big.

Decent Boot

Have worn these boots for about a few weeks now. They are considerably lighter than other boots I’ve worn. They seem clunky though. They are a comfortable boot but they have a very bad squeak to them. Not sure if they aren’t broken in quite yet or if it’s the boot itself. I’ve had the AirPower R2s in the past and those squeaked pretty bad. They fit differently than other Haix boots. By that I mean these run a little bigger than say the R2s and R1s I’ve previously had. Got these in a 13 which is what I wore in other Haix boots but a 13 in these my foot slides around. Maybe I got the boot a half size smaller and the squeak wasn’t there it would go from a decent boot to a great boot.

Tough Enough

I have not broken in these boots hence my 8/10 rating. They feel a bit clunky but they have definitely done the job. Wearing these on an 8 or 10 hour shift I have not felt any discomfort and my feet do not feel sweaty. The upper part of the toe is very strong. A small oxygen tank was accidentally dropped on my foot but I never felt it.

I would recommend the purchase of this pair of boots as well as the brush kit and polish. These are an investment and should be taken care of. Once I break them in more I will edit my review but as of now I have no regrets with this purchase.

Awesome

These boots are by the best that I have owned. They took about a week to break in and they feel amazing and I can wear them all day! I will definitely be doing future business with Haix!

Comfortable Lightweight Side Zip Station Boot

I really like Haix boots for station wear. As a primary purchaser for my department, I am always looking for something new and better that I can provide for my firefighters. I have been waiting for a side zip boot option from Haix to fit those people who can't seem to get the front zip boots tight enough. As for the boots themselves, I have purchased and worn them every day for about a week. The first thing that comes to mind when trying to describe these boots is the constant squeaking. Every time you walk, the leather on the front where the laces are rubs and squeaks annoyingly. Outside, probably not a big deal but I have been wearing them in an office and it has become a running joke for people to mention my squeak when I am walking around. Otherwise, the boot is comfortable, considerably lighter than the other front zip models and it has nice clean look to it. If I were to give recommendations for improvement, it would be to solve the squeak and provide just a bit more room to occasionally fan out my toes.

Durable boot

At first I was unsure about these boots. I had to order the extra wide boot because the cut around my big toe was tight and even with the extra wide it's still extremely close and after owning them for about six months the laces are starting to fray. The break in time wasn't long and there are times that I may wear these boots up to 16 hours a day. Now here is what impressed me. We spent three days executing a structural collapse exercise and these boots were put through everything. After three days plus the weeks prior associated with prep time the boots looks rough. I rinsed off the dust and dirt then added a coat of wax. There was no damage to the boots. The toe guard did its job where those who had other boots the toe of the boot had deep cuts. If they would widen out the toe area and have some better laces I would give them a 10.

Awesome boot

Love these boots, well worth the price! Have had my boots for several months they are comfortable and durable! Ive read where people have issues with the zipper, the zipper works just fine. I uave a bad ankle and these boots make my feet hurt less. after a 24 hour shift i dont limp around as bad with boots as I have with others! If and when these wear out I will be purchasing another pair!!

Not worth the price in my book

Very disappointed with my purchase the boots are OK but when I find out that I had to be for delivery on the $400 pair of boots I was a bit upset when you consider these these most companies ship for free over $25 purchase plus they tend to run bigger than the size, The right Toe cap seem a bit misplaced and it took long time for delivery from ups (the worst) so next time i will pass on haix!

Steve F.

3.5/5

Not bad

Bought these about 6 weeks ago. I like how light and flexible they are. I also love the side zip and toe cap. Unfortunately I had to spend even more money to go back to the R8 because the way they are designed it is bruising my left heel badly.
